2. Christmas at Olde Mecklenburg Brewery:
This Charlotte area favorite spot transforms into a German marketplace during the holidays. Open weekends Thanksgiving to Christmas, it is free to explore the market and take pictures with Santa. Of course, there are lots of gift items and baked goods available for purchase at this Charlotte Christmas event!
3. Christmas Town USA – McAdenville Lights:
Take a short drive to the charming town of McAdenville, famously known as Christmas Town USA. Marvel at the brilliant light displays that adorn the town, turning it into a twinkling wonderland. It's a breathtaking sight that has been captivating visitors for generations, and the best part? It's absolutely free! Open from 5:30-10:00 pm, prepare for traffic but it’s worth it!
4. WinterFest at Carowinds – Winter Wonderland:
Carowinds amusement park hosts WinterFest, transforming into a winter wonderland with no extra admission fee. Wander through the park's festive displays, enjoy the holiday lights, and savor the seasonal treats. While some attractions may have a cost, the general WinterFest experience is yours to enjoy without breaking the budget if you have a Carowinds season’s pass.
5. Christmas at the Billy Graham Library:
A holiday tradition in Charlotte, the Billy Graham Library hosts it’s Christmas festivities from 5:00-9:00 pm Monday-Thursday and 5:00-10:00 pm Friday and Saturday from December 1-23 this year. Stop by to view a live nativity, petting zoo open during the day, explore the beautiful grounds and libraries with free hot cocoa as carolers make their rounds. You can also choose to pay extra for dinner at the restaurant and horse drawn carriage rides!
6. Gingerbread Lane at the Ballantyne Hotel:
Ride over to the Ballantyne Hotel and view incredible works in sugar at this annual gingerbread house competition. This year it is running December 11-24 9:00 am- 6:30 pm daily. Admission is free but you can make a donation to vote on your favorite gingerbread house. There are also drinks available for purchase at the event. All proceeds go to support Atrium Levine Children’s hospital.
7. Neighborhood Light Displays:
Explore different neighborhoods like Ballantyne and SouthPark, where residents often go all out with elaborate light displays. Pack some snacks, hop in the car, and enjoy a festive evening of free Christmas light viewing.
