Things to do in Charlotte NC with Kids!
Kids and Charlotte, what to do!? There are so many AMAZING things to do in Charlotte NC with kids! Maybe you’re just visiting, or maybe you live in the area but want to try some new things. Here’s a list of a few different things to try with your kiddos, no matter their age!
Check out a Kid Friendly Brewery
Do you enjoy trying new beers and relaxing? Breweries are one of our favorite places to take the fam! Oftentimes there are games or activities for the kids to do, while the grown ups can relax a little bit and unwind. They are usually really noisy too, which is always a bonus when you have kiddos around! No worries if they’re crying or laughing too loud, no one will hear it anyhow! I reached out to a few local moms to find out the places they recommended the most that were kid friendly options!
Dreamchasers Brewery in Waxhaw. They have their own selection of brews and are located in the old firehouse of Waxhaw. The vibe is very relaxing, they have games and even pinball and Pacman, as well as live music, food trucks, our personal favorite activity… Mingo!
Heist Barrel Arts is in Charlotte is an excellent option. There is a field just outside of the taproom so the kids can run around under shady trees. There are food options- appetizers and small plates. A few are definitely kid-approved!
Southern Range in Monroe. Southern Range has one of my favorite flavors in the spring (it’s called the Neopolitan with a chocolate, vanilla and strawberry flavor. Beer with lactose is my absolute favvveeeee). They have board games for both kids and adults, an outdoor area with live music sometimes, and an indoor area that the kids can run around in a bit.. as well as play some slot games. They often have a food truck that comes, or there is a really good pizza place around the corner!
Seaboard Brewing is in Matthews and it’s right next to a pizzeria that makes great pizzas! It is a brewery/taproom so it has a lot of wine options as well. They even have snack scoop options which my kids ALWAYS want!
Check out a new park or greenway!
There are a ton of parks and greenways around the Charlotte area. We definitely haven’t been to them all… but here are a few recommendations on places we have visited!
Squirrel Lake Park- this was one of our favorites when we moved here. This playground is perfect for kiddos aged 9 and under, but especially 6 and under. There is shade on the playground which is amazing. There is also a pond with a little tiny dock that the kids can fish or just look for ducks from. There are some walking trails ands wings as well!
Cane Creek Park- this one is in Waxhaw, and we live fairly close so we are here often. There is a car payment ($4 per car as of right now!) There is a big lake and lots of walking trails around the lake. There are two pretty big playgrounds, one has a zipline that my older kiddos love. There are also plenty of grills and picnic tables if you want to pack a picnic lunch for the family! You can fish in the lake (though we’ve never caught anything..) and if it’s summer time they do have a small beach where the kids can swim.
Stallings Park-- kids love this park- there are two sections—one is a small one for kids age 4 and under I believe and it has a sand box. The other side is bigger to cater to kids older than 4. They also have a water fountain splash pad of sorts, but it does have specific hours so make sure to look them up before you head out! My only complaint with this park is that there isn’t a ton of shade. So don’t go on the 90 degree super sunny days!
Things to do in Charlotte NC with KIds
Check out a science center!
There is more than one option for a great science center around Charlotte! Here are three great options to check out!
The Discovery Place in Charlotte is truly amazing. It is great for kids of all ages! I’ve taken my children as toddlers and again as elementary aged students. It is more of a hike for us, so we make sure to plan in advance. It’s $17-$18 per person, so it’s more of a commitment to go.. but the kids will love all of the hands on activities, opportunities to play and the freedom to explore!
The Schiele Museum of Natural History & Planetarium is in Gastonia and my kids loved this museum. They had dinosaur replica bones, natural history sets with animals, as well as some little simulators and a fun place for the kids to run around. This would be great for kiddos under age 6 or so especially!
A new science center opened in Monroe that I haven’t had a chance to check out, but am planning to! You can check out some of their information here. All the moms I have talked to said their kids really enjoyed the experience. And you have the option of leaving for lunch and going back to explore again.
Hopefully this inspired you with a few fun things to do in Charlotte NC with kids! Let me know if you try one out, I’d love to hear your experience!!
