It’s that time again… strawberry picking in Charlotte NC!

This is my FAVORITE time of year. There is something so wonderful about getting out in the spring to pick strawberries… not to mention they are SO much better than strawberries from the store! I have done my fair share of strawberry picking, so come with me on a little tour of my favorite places to visit for strawberry picking in Charlotte, NC!

Little girl with fresh strawberries from the Ivy Place

No frills option one…. Ivy place! Strawberry picking in Charlotte NC

Ivy Place is in South Carolina, over near Indian Land. It is my personal favorite place to pick strawberries. Why? It’s very small and relaxed and you don’t have to worry about anyone hollering at you if your kiddo is jumping over the strawberry rows. (If you don’t have kids that do this.. consider yourself lucky!) In the past, it’s always been the best cost wise too and they grow a particular type of strawberry (camerosa, maybe?) that tastes like pure strawberry sugar and is hands down my fave!!

What to know about Ivy Place!

  • It is pick your own (heck yes) or you can usually get pre-picked berries from the stand.

  • It’s just picking strawberries. There are no playgrounds or food trucks or anything else for the kids to do, just some good ole fashioned strawberry picking!

  • There isn’t a lot of shade. Strawberries love sun and the bees love the strawberries . So bring a hat and sunglasses if it’s a hot day so you don’t get too sweaty! It would be hard to push a stroller between rows, but a wagon might work or I always juse wore my kiddos while they were really small.

  • Local and home grown, and the owners are super nice! They are really glad to have you here and really seem to enjoy what they do!

  • It’s also really close to the Indian Land shopping centers, so if you’re like me, you’ll probably hit up Hobby Lobby or TJ Maxx on the way out!

  • No reservations required!

Option Two {With Pizza!} Wise Acres Organic Farm—Strawberry Picking in Charlotte NC

Wise Acres strawberry picking in Charlotte NC is also a great family friendly farm to visit! (They do pumpkins in the fall too!). This farm offers not only picking, but also playgrounds, some farm animals, AMAZING pizza, and sometimes they have some barrel train rides for the kids. The playground equipment is tons of funs- it’s not your standard swings, but unique ones made with farm materials or old antique items! I’ll make a list of all of the pros for a trip to Wise Acres!

What to know about Wise Acres Organic Farm!

  • They typically require reservations, especially if you are getting pizza! Oftentimes in the past, they would run out of pizza, so I think it makes it easier on them to know how many people want it in advance. I am LITERALLY obsessed with their pizza. We went one year without reserving a pizza and that was the last time that will ever happen! They cook it in a wood fired oven, it is chef’s kiss delicious.

  • NOT just a place to strawberry pick! They do have animals around the farm that kiddos can look at. Usually there are chickens, pigs and sometimes goats too!

  • Playgrounds and shade galore. Obviously the strawberry field is in full sun, but most of the playground equipment is in the shade.

  • Typically when it’s warm they offer slushies and they do have other snack items for kids!

  • Definitely bring a wagon if you have multiple little ones, just so you can try and keep them in one spot!

Option Three— Hall Family Farm — Strawberry Picking in Charlotte NC

I’ll be honest, I haven’t been to Hall Family Farm for some time. In the past, I chose Hall Family Farm for strawberry picking in Charlotte NC because they used to have some amazing donuts! (I just love food, ok?) I am not sure if they still offer that, but I’ll let you know if I hear anything! They are also located in South Carolina in Lancaster and offer strawberry picking. Looking at their Instagram, they are installing a grain bin for a corn pit attraction for the kiddos. In the past, they had a firetruck playground that my kiddos loved because it had one of those big black tube slides!

What to know about Hall Family Farm!

  • They are planning to open in April for strawberry picking in Charlotte NC

  • Reservations are not required and there is no admission fee

  • They do have big playground areas for the kids— they even have a little area where you pump water and have a rubber ducky race!

  • They do offer food options and sometimes have additional food trucks that come during certain days.

  • You can read more about their activities here!

You definitely can’t go wrong with any of these strawberry picking farms in Charlotte, NC! AND bonus points for supporting local businesses and farms AND eating amazing fresh strawberries. They are always better when you pick them off the vines yourselves. Just remember to go over with your kids that you want to pick the RED ones… not the green ones, not the white ones. but those juicy red ones. They probably will still pick the white ones, but I promise they’ll get there eventually!
