Spray Tans… top 3 Tips from an Expert! | Spray Tan Charlotte

I see posts all the time on mom groups looking for spray tan services that don’t make them look orange, like some of us did back in 2002. (It was me, I did look like that on occasion… :) Well spray tans have improved by leaps and bounds! I reached out to a local spray tan business, Kist Beauty by Mel to get the scoop on spray tans in Charlotte and how to make them last, especially for upcoming photos!

How to make your Charlotte Spray Tan Last… According to Melania from Kist Beauty by Mel

  1. Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate before your tan. Get off all those dead skin cells before your spray tan session in Charlotte. Then you won’t shed all those skin cells quite as fast, after your are a beautiful bronzed color!

  2. Take short showers. I repeat, SHORT showers. (Kinda like when you have your hair colored and you aren’t supposed to wash it as frequently!) And use very mild cleansers. If you’re scrubbing and using very harsh soaps, chances are that spray tan will not last as long as you are wanting it to!

  3. Keep your skin hydrated! Don’t let it dry out, use gentle lotions or moisturizers to hydrate your skin and keep that dewy tan finish!

What to Know about getting photo ready and spray tans in Charlotte

When you are planning those maternity or newborn photos, of course you’re thinking about all the things you want to do to get photo ready! Hair and make up is provided at the studio for both sessions mentioned above, but if it’s winter time and you’re thinking you would like a little glow for photos…. a spray tan is a great option! I have personally seen Melania (from Kist Beauty by Mel) in action and she is wonderful! She is very professional and uses really high quality products! Melania is super thorough with her clients and offers different tan levels, so you can choose what’s comfortable for you.

A few things to note if you are getting that spray tan before your session! Make sure to get your spray tan at least a few days before your session, as Melania recommends to not apply make up immediately after your spray tan. (You can rub off some of the tan, and nobody wants funny looking raccoon eyes!) Getting it a few days ahead of time also gives you time to get used to your new bronze-ness and you don’t have to worry about it coming off on any of your picture clothing!

Pregnant and want to get a spray tan in Charlotte?

Most spray tanners will advise you to just double check with your doctor for his or her input on a spray tan. It seems a general consensus that they are fairly safe for expecting mothers, as long as you practice a few precautions. I’ll list some of those precautions below and if you want to read more, check out this article.

  • Make sure you do not inhale the spray tan! (Melania actually provides nose plugs for her, so that you really are not inhaling the spray!)

  • Limit your spray tans, don’t make them a common occurrence.

  • If you are very close to delivery, you may want to skip the spray tan. You don’t want your chest or your nipples to have your spray tan and then come in contact with baby after he or she is born!

Spray tans in Charlotte are an easy way to make a big impact for photos and make you feel like a goddess, or at least like you’ve seen the sun! If you are thinking of getting one, definitely reach out to Melania, with Kist Beauty by Mel! And if you are still looking for a photographer… please shoot me a message. I would love to chat about setting up a session with you!
