Are you expecting a new little one!? Pregnancy is such a beautiful brief time in a woman’s life.. you deserve to celebrate this time of your life with a maternity photoshoot in Charlotte, NC! I have been photographing maternity and newborn sessions for the past 9 years and have tons of experience, tips and tricks to make you feel simply amazing for your session!

Outfit Choices… Maternity Photoshoot, Charlotte NC

Maternity sessions can be photographed in so many different styles— it just depends on what look you are going for! I have photographed glam maternity sessions in gorgeous frilly tulle gowns, boho maternity in neutrals and lace gowns, casual maternity in jeans and tees, and fine art maternity with might be done with fabrics and potentially nude, even the choice of indoor or outdoor sets. I personally think that pregnancy is amazing and beautiful and I love to shoot in that fine art style if you are down for baring your belly! If that’s not your cup of tea though, there are SO many options! I offer a client closet of 20+ gowns for you to choose from and you can even come a few weeks before your session to try them on in person and see what suits you. My collections include lace dresses, boho dresses, fabrics, tulle dresses, neutral gowns, etc.

Maternity Photoshoot, Charlotte NC… WHERE to have your session photos!?

Maternity sessions can be photographed indoor or outdoor, depending on your personal preference! Maybe you love outdoors with the sun setting behind you in a luxurious gown… maybe you lean towards a more lifestyle approach with your family, cozying up together on the bed in the studio to celebrate just being together as a family before things change! Whatever your desire, we can make it happen! My studio is located on 9 acres in the country so I offer both options to all clients. Of course the season kind of depends on what different outdoor backdrops are available, but do you like photos in the field? Tall grasses? Wooded or greenery backdrops? Or if you are looking to have your session 100% indoors, that can be done too! Studio sessions offer a variety of look depending on what you’re looking for. Backdrops can be solid colored for dramatic looks, you can use the wood wall if you are looking for more of a boho look, and a big giant white window is always a great backdrop for pretty much any look you want for your maternity photoshoot in Charlotte, NC. If you are hoping for flowers, you’ll want to shoot for an early spring session! Typically March is when trees start blooming and can provide a beautiful natural backdrop for your photos.

Other Tips and Tricks for an AMAZING maternity photoshoot in Charlotte, NC

Here are some quick tips and tricks for how to get amazing maternity photos for your maternity photoshoot in Charlotte, NC.

  • Schedule your maternity photoshoot near the end of your pregnancy, ideally between 31-36 weeks. (This is typically a good window before any additional swelling may occur near the end!)

  • Get pampered. If you don’t like how you loo, chances are you won’t love your photos. Schedule a hair and make up artist to get you all dolled up, or if you book your maternity photoshoot with in Charlotte NC with me…. it’s included in your session fee!

  • Choose looks that flatter your figure. I can help you with this. As a very chesty person myself, there are certain silhouettes or looks that work well for big chests and certain ones that definitely do not. Keep that in mind as you try on and select your dresses. You don’t want your dress to swallow you or make you look boxy, but really accentuate all those beautiful pregnancy curves!

  • The double chin trick. I shouldn’t be sharing this one because it’s my own secret weapon, but during your session you may be asked to look down at your belly for photos. I always tell my clients to stick their chin out, and just let their eyes look down. This avoids that double chin that no one wants in their photos!

  • Always bring or wear nude or skin colored underwear and a strapless bra too! I always ask clients to bring black bra and undies too. This ensures that no neon pink or green underwear is peeking out through a dress that might just look a bit sheer in the sun.

  • I always love to do a pose in your maternity session that we can repeat once baby arrives! That way you have the most precious before and after from bump to baby.
