What are the best ages to get your baby photographed?
Have a new little one that you are just OBSESSED with!? I don’t blame you. It is so easy to be smitten with your little one and want to stare at them all day! I’m sure you’ve taken a million photos of your baby on your phone…. but as a professional photographer, I’m here to share the BEST ages to get your baby photographed during that first year when they change so much! Baby photography in Charlotte, NC is one of my favorite things to capture!
The first time you should photograph your baby is while your baby is still in your belly of course! I know that not everyone loves being pregnant, but it is a special once in a lifetime kind of life, and it’s always nice to have even just one maternity photo to document your baby’s first home. :) There are so many ways you can celebrate your pregnancy with photos- you can go for a glam maternity session and get dolled up and dress in some gorgeous couture maternity gowns! If fancy isn’t your thing, maybe schedule a more lifestyle vibed session! Photos with a chunky sweater or in some jeans and a sports bra are classic and allow you to capture your belly without all of the frills. You can check out some of my maternity session galleries here!
Newborn sessions are of course another special time that most mommas can’t wait to capture! Your baby is going to change SO FAST, right before your very eyes! Most of the time, by the time your images are edited and printed, baby has already changed. Make sure to capture that first family photo, some of those sweet detail shots of your baby’s tiny little fingers and toes, and then some of those sweet swaddled sets! Newborn sessions are seriously one of my absolute favorite session to shoot. Who doesn’t love a snuggly, sleepy newborn babe!?
The next best milestone to schedule for your baby photography Charlotte, NC session, is 3-4 months old. Why? Most babies have chunked up by this point and are actively smiling at you!! Those baby smiles melt your heart and make for some of the sweetest professional baby photos. You can typically still put them in a few buckets (maybe even one of the same ones from your newborn session so you can see a progression!!), and having them lay on their back looking up at the camera makes for a beautiful shot! This would also be a great time to schedule some mommy and me photos! You may be feeling a little more back to yourself and capturing some of the two of you smiling together…. it’s pretty much the best!
We alll love the baby photos and watching your little one chunk up, which leads to another great time to schedule a session! 7-9 months is when your baby will typically be able to sit unassisted. This makes for a lot of variety in your photos! You can get some sweet photos of your little on on their tummy looking at the camera, laying down and looking up at the camera, sitting un-assisted, and also they can sit in buckets and props in a whole new way! Most babies still are good with strangers at this point so you don’t have to worry too much about stranger danger fear! Baby can also sit outside in the grass, as well as in the studio! Or this is great time to schedule a milk bath for your little one.
The last milestone to capture for your bay’s first year is of course that one year milestone! Baby photography Charlotte, NC wouldn’t be complete without a one year celebration photo sesh! Some people love to celebrate with a smash session and others love traditional portraits, there is no wrong answer! Your babe might be walking or crawling with a lot more teeth now. It’s such a great time to photograph your little one reaching that first year milestone. Make sure you snag some family photos too! I include those in all of my sessions as well as a bath option if your little one loves the water! You can find some more cake smash session information on this page.
Of course there is truly no right or wrong time to photograph your baby. But that first year FLIES by and they change so fast in front of your eyes that those memories are easy to forget! Schedule those photos and make sure to hop in front of some yourself!
