Atrium Health Maternity Center
Are you expecting? Congratulations! As a local Fresh 48 (and newborn!) photographer, I get to view a lot of different maternity wards around the Charlotte area. The Atrium Health Maternity Center is just one of the locations that I have visited in person as a photographer. While thinking about where is best to deliver your baby, obviously some things come in to play. Location being one of those big factors- labor is often unpredictable, so most moms want to find a hospital or birth center that is close, in the event that they are one of those lucky moms with short labors! (I never had to worry about this part with my 37 hour labors!) If CMC Main is close to you, it’s definitely an option you should check out for your birth.
Atrium Health Maternity Center Amenities
CMC main is a family oriented medical center that offers suite for moms allowing moms and babies to remain in the same room during the whole process. (I find that this is highly encouraged in most Charlotte hospitals). There are 23 laboring suites with at their facility and 5 of those rooms have jacuzzi tubs if you are interested in experiencing some water relief during your labor. Atrium Health Maternity Center offers the largest neonatal intensive care nursery in the Carolinas and is also the only ECMO facility in the region, should your baby have issues with his or her heart or lungs. They provide 24 hour neonatologist, anesthesiologist and perinatologist care and have many specialists on staff in case a need arises.

The specialists at CMC Women’s Institute provide high quality, state of the art care for women with high-risk pregnancies.
For women with high-risk pregnancies that may require fetal surgery or other highly specialized care, Charlotte Fetal Care Center is available to help ensure the health of both mother and baby. Charlotte Fetal Care Center is one of the few comprehensive fetal care programs in the region.
The Reviews
Most of the moms that I talk to in the studio, have had a pleasant labor experience in the local hospitals, including CMC Main. As a photographer, or as a person walking into Atrium Health Maternity Center I’ll be honest, it’s confusing. It is located right in downtown Charlotte so parking is limited nearby, other than the large parking deck that it does have. There is very little signage, so it’s hard to figure out exactly where to go. If you plan to deliver here, I would definitely recommend visiting this center ahead of time so that you are not frustrated in labor because you don’t know where to go! It is a very LARGE hospital, so if you have a high risk pregnancy or want ALL the monitoring and everything at your fingertips in case (God forbid) something happens, this is a really great option for that!
Their google rating is a 3.2. Most of the complaints come from people who were seen in the ER and not the maternity center itself. I’ll attach one glowing review for you to check out yourself!
“I absolutely love CMC MAINE. I loved all the nurses I had and the faculty and staff! I had recently moved to Blythewood and I came an hour and a half to have my son at this hospital. It’s one of the best hospitals in Charlotte and they always treat the patients with respect and dignity! When I have my fourth child this is where I will have them!”
