Summer Photoshoot Ideas for Charlotte, NC Families

Summertime in the Queen City means sunny days, balmy nights, and endless opportunities for fun family adventures! As a professional photographer in Charlotte, NC, I love this season because it opens up so many creative possibilities for summer activities to do in Charlotte and capture beautiful family and maternity portraits against our city’s natural backdrop. If you’re looking to update your family photos, here are some of my favorite summer photoshoot ideas for Charlotte families.

Milk and Fruit Baths

One of the most unique, Instagram-worthy photoshoot concepts is a milk bath session. It is perfect for baby portraits (if your little one loves water!!) because of the whimsical, ethereal look it creates. Imagine your little one surrounded by floral accents, fruit slices, and that creamy, dreamy milk - it’s an absolute vision! While tricky to pull off on your own, I have plenty of experience safely setting up and capturing these one-of-a-kind milk bath scenes. We can get as creative and magical as you’d like with styling and props. If your little one loves to splash and play in the bath, this just might be the summer session for you! I have done these with ages 4 months to age sitter, but milk baths would be adorable even to age two!

Outdoor Photoshoot with Bubbles

For an energetic, playful spin on summer family portraits, few things capture the quirkiness of childhood summers quite like bubbles! An open, green area like the field next to the studio, makes the perfect canvas for chasing, popping, and frolicking with bubbles both big and small! As a mom myself, I know just how to coax out those uncontrollable giggles and looks of pure joy. Imagine vibrant colors, windblown hair, and smiles so big that’ll warm your heart for years to come. Bubble portrait sessions are a treasured memory in the making!

Fishing for Great Portraits

Speaking of fun activities to do in summer in Charlotte, NC, combining a family fishing day with a portrait session could be such a fun, candid experience. I’m happy to tag along and document the excitement as your kids show off their catches, sit patiently waiting for nibbles, or cast their lines into the water. (Perfect for Father’s Day too!) Cane Creek is about 10 minutes from the studio and there is also a local fishing pond down the road that is catch and release called Holly Day. Book an early morning session for beautiful lighting and some dreamy fun portraits.

Wander Through Blossoming Gardens

The summer months are prime time for Charlotte’s gardens and green spaces to be in full, radiant bloom. Family photography in one of these Charlotte’s lush locations allows us to incorporate vibrant pops of color and dreamy, romantic scenery into your portraits. Glencairn in Rock Hill, SC is a fabulous spot to walk through any of the blooming areas. There are also local wildflower fields around Monroe that allow photographers and would make for a beautiful backdrop! Yellow black eyed daisies also bloom in a backyard spot at the studio, perfect for maternity, child, or family photos!

The Golden Light You’ve Been Dreaming Of

If you’re looking for those warm, glowing, golden hour photos, summer’s long evenings provide the perfect opportunity. The soft, fiery light will envelop you in a truly magical atmosphere in the field next to the studio, or behind our barn. For couples or intimate maternity sessions in Charlotte, I’m always game to chase that last bit of dreamy, fading light somewhere scenic. The possibilities are endless when we have Charlotte’s diverse landscapes as our canvas.

So what are you waiting for, Charlotte? This summer, let’s get out there and create family portraits that celebrate everything you love about this sunny season - vibrant colors, playful festivities, and quality family time. Whether in uptown’s urban scenery or our gorgeous green spaces, as your trusted professional family photographer in Charlotte, NC, I can’t wait to capture that unmistakable summer radiance alongside you and your loved ones.
