Breastfeeding is Hard! | Lactation Consultants in Charlotte, NC

Nursing is one of those things I always thought would just come naturally… little did I know, that was not the case!! As a newborn photographer, I LOVE talking to moms and new moms who come in about their labor and how everything is going! Nursing oftentimes comes up in these conversations! I think it’s something we oftentimes sweep under the rug, because it’s really hard to explain until you’re in the thick of it. Not only that, but EVERY KID is different. So even though your first kiddo is a great nurser, doesn’t mean that the next one will be. Just know you are NOT alone if you are having nursing issues and there are some great lactation consultants in Charlotte NC who are happy to help! And if you’re at your newborn photography session with me… I am always down for troubleshooting what I can! Let’s be honest, a new baby is stressful without even taking breastfeeding/bottle-feeding into account. The lack of good quality sleep will make you already feel zombie-like, so of course feeding baby can feel extra stressful if it’s not working the way you anticipated!

FOUR well recommended lactation Consultants in Charlotte, NC

I scoured the mom’s group to see which lactation consultants came up recommended repeatedly. There were four specific names that came up that local moms just RAVED about! Some consultants work with insurance and others are more of a concierge service. Here’s the list!!

  • Dayna Slomba with Nursing Mothers in Matthews came up repeatedly. Moms said she was super helpful and made them feel so much better about their nursing experiences and stress with it. She does work with insurance. You can find her contact information here! She works through Novant hospitals.

  • Rachael with Milked Lactation is another option that moms recommended multiple times. She works as more of a concierge service and can do in person lactation consultations as well as tele-lactation visits. She has a lot of great information on her website and really strives to meet moms at where they are- whether that’s pumping, nursing, returning to work, etc. She does accept HSA cards and some insurance. You can find more information about Rachael here!

  • Gretta Blythe is the founder of Lactation Concierge Services in Charlotte, NC. She offers a wealth of information to new mothers and has a team of experts working with her to help new moms! Gretta offers consults before baby arrives, after baby is here, with transitional help if you are adopting a new little one! They also offer rental services for pumps and breastfeeding related items. You can find contact information here.

  • Cheryl, with Charlotte Lactation, was also one of the names of lactation consultants in Charlotte NC that popped up in several mom’s groups.
